Consultant – Strategy and Engagement
Lelia is a geographical science and engagement professional with a strong focus on people and place. She has varied experience working with regional and rural communities in a range of capacities as well as exposure to community development both in Australia and overseas. She has formal training with the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) and is working towards the Certificate in Engagement accreditation.
She has worked across a range of communities and landscapes, bringing communities and organisations together to establish strong and lasting outcomes. Lelia joined the Locale team in early 2019 and undertakes a range of projects within the strategy and planning team, as well as through Locale’s training platform Locale Learning.
Lelia regularly draws upon her experience as a Community Engagement Officer in the South Australian Arid Lands with the Department for Environment, Water and Natural Resources. Here she was the Executive Officer for the Marla Oodnadatta Natural Resource Management (NRM) District Group as well as being a conduit between community stakeholders and the Department.
Lelia also recently completed a Certificate IV in Project Management and brings a practical, outcomes focused approach to her work.
Following her graduation from the University of Queensland, Lelia moved to the south of Spain and undertook a role as an English language assistant to consolidate her Spanish language and education skills.
Lelia opted to complete her Masters in Environmental Education at the University of Malaga as this degree uniquely offered the opportunity to engage with environmental issues from a communication and education perspective. Lelia was the first non-native speaker to complete this degree. She undertook her practical and thesis research on the impacts of environmental habits and perceptions of an Andean community in relation to the uptake and success of a water and sanitation project.
