Locale Consulting expands with new team

by | Feb 20, 2019

As we approach our 10th birthday celebrations, we have started the year by expanding our team and our capacity to work with local communities.

We would like to welcome Lelia Kamphorst and Michelle Ryan to the Locale team.

Lelia is geographical science and engagement professional with a strong focus on people and place. She has varied experience working with regional and rural communities in a range of capacities as well as exposure to community development both in Australia and overseas. She is also formally trained wth the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2).

Michelle has a background in human resources, learning and development and administration, as well as events, with experience working in both small businesses and large corporations. This includes the hospitality, tourism and entertainment industries. Michelle provides additional research capability and hands on experience in areas such as event management and project planning.

In this update we want to share with you a bit more about our new team.

What attracted you to Locale Consulting?

Lelia: The range of work and a strong community focus was a big draw card for me. It’s very exciting to find a regionally based business that delivers at so many levels and to be able to work with local communities and organisations on projects that have an impact.

Michelle: Being a local and small business, I was excited to join the team and sink my teeth into projects which impact the local community and regional NSW.

Why are you passionate about regional NSW?

Michelle: Growing up on the Gold Coast and in recent years, moving to the Coffs Harbour area, it is important to me for regional NSW to continue to grow and develop and be as innovative as the capital cities and larger towns. Having two small children, and raising them in a small community, I want them to have the same opportunities and facilities as other children in New South Wales.

Lelia: Similarly for me, growing up on a property in the New England Tablelands as well as living in other regional areas of Australia and overseas it’s where I feel at home. I love the community, lifestyle, and opportunities that make regional areas such a unique and important part of our country. It has been a choice for me for a number of reasons to come back to regional Australia but part of it is to hopefully be able to contribute and help build strong regional areas.

What is your background?

Lelia: I have a pretty broad base with a background in Geographical Sciences, International Relations, Environmental Education and Project Management as well as recent work in Community Engagement. It’s really nice to be working as part of a multidisciplinary team – everyone brings something different to the table and that can be hard to find sometimes.

Michelle: I have a background in Human Resources, Learning and Development and Administration, as well as events. Having varied experience in both large and small organisations, I am excited to be involved in several different aspects of Locale Consulting, and be a support person for the greater team.

What are you excited about for this year?

Michelle: There are so many exciting things in the pipeline this year, including continued involvement in several local government strategy projects, system upgrades and continued expansion of the business into new areas such as training and development.

Lelia: We are already getting into a lot of interesting projects for the year and I’m excited to be able to use a whole range of my skills as part a great small team. The variety is fantastic, you never know what will pop up next!
