Community Buildings Use Review

An important function of councils is to manage community buildings and local infrastructure. In historic towns such as Berry, there a number of community buildings with significant heritage value and which are important to the town’s character and community – but they also come with some significant costs associated with their maintenance and upgrade.

Locale Consulting was engaged to undertake a review of community buildings in Berry, seeking an open discussion on ways in which Council can best meet community needs within their budgetary constraints.  The project involved a community round-table type discussion, helping to identify policy options for how the facilities may become more financially sustainable over time, and to enable extensive and expensive restoration and remedial works to be completed.

The project resulted in recommendations for future steps, but perhaps more importantly, the project enabled each side of the issue to hear their concerns and to elaborate on how these may be best addressed.
