Local Strategic Planning Statements
Locale has recently assisted various local councils to prepare their Local Strategic Planning Statements (LSPS). The LSPS sets out each council’s land use planning priorities which meets the community’s needs and deliver key State and regional planning objectives over the next 20 years.
The commissions include workshops with industry groups, community representatives, Council staff, Councillors and other stakeholders in order to inform and curate the direction of each plan.
Locale Consulting developed the Clarence Valley LSPS following community drop in sessions and workshops. These sessions included successful engagement with the Local Aboriginal Land Councils and native title organisations. The result is a comprehensive LSPS that addresses priorities for the local area such as protecting the value of coastal villages and planning for the Grafton correctional centre.
The Gunnedah Shire LSPS was developed using a collaborative approach including surveys, Social Pinpoint (a map-based engagement tool), visioning workshops and planning priority charettes. The result is an LSPS that addresses a wide range of issues in the rural LGA including skills shortages, placemaking and liveability.
In a rural setting the Uralla Shire is becoming recognised for its creative and artisan products. The LSPS looks to assist to further developing this niche industry whilst addressing a wide range of land use issues in the context of the rural economy, natural environment and social settings on the New England tablelands.
