MidCoast Council Housing Strategy
Locale worked with the recently amalgamated MidCoast Council to review residential components of their three respective LEPs – comprising the former Greater Taree, Great Lakes and Gloucester council areas. The project established a consistent Housing Strategy that will guide residential zoning and controls within the consolidated MidCoast LEP as it is developed.
This work highlights many of the diverse issues being experienced in regional areas where coastal areas have characteristics of high growth, rapidly aging populations and increasing housing prices, whilst more rural locations seek growth opportunities, employment and attraction of a younger workforce.
Locale was instrumental in facilitating various community forums across a number of the towns in the area, seeking to set a fresh direction from which the three existing LEPs can be consolidated into the MidCoast LEP in coming years.
In broader terms, the Strategy identifies the opportunities and constraints within the housing market now, and housing needs of the future, seeking to balance these with overarching goals areas sustainability and economic growth.
